This brief extreme cold exposure causes the blood vessels near the skin to contract (vasoconstriction) and re-route blood to major organs to
maintain your core body temperature. During this process, your blood fills with oxygen, nutrients, and healing enzymes to enable it to survive
the event. Following your treatment, the blood vessels dilate (vasodilation) and the enriched blood rushes back to your skin and muscle tissues.
Oxygenated blood is circulated and may increase collagen production and release anti-inflammatories to help relieve pain, soothe swollen joints
and accelerate healing. In addition to anti-inflammatories, the release of ‘feel good’ endorphins may have you feeling positive, refreshed and
relaxed. In addition, research is revealing increases in metabolic rate and boosted immune function.
The most profound impact associated with WBC is the impact on inflammation and thus pain, and many other disorders associated with
excessive inflammation. Below is a list of reported benefits:
How can cold help me?
A brief exposure to extreme cold causes a fight or flight response that triggers natural healing reactions within your body such as anti-inflammatory responses, endorphin release, elevated metabolic rate, increased biochemical activity, and boosted immune function. These reactions translate into less pain, better function, and an improvement in overall health.
Does it hurt?
People usually associate cold treatments with things such as ice baths or standing in freezing weather, neither of which are pleasant. Our cryo-sauna uses liquid nitrogen to cool the air around you. You feel more of a cool breeze than frigid cold. This provides the benefits of an ice bath ten-fold in a fraction of the time and without the discomfort.
I don’t like being cold, will I be able to handle this?
Very few people like being cold or have a tolerance for it. Most clients are not accustomed to being cold but still enjoy the treatment. Plus, you will be asked to wear high-cut socks and gloves and be to wear during your session, so you will never be uncomfortable or experience any pain. Whether you like cold or not, the process is relaxed, and you will like the results.
How long does my treatment need to be for me to get results?
Treatments are never longer than 3 minutes and can be as short as 2. That is all it takes for your body to respond with the appropriate physiological reactions that will help improve your health and well-being. You’ll never need more than that.
Do I need to work out before I come?
Cryotherapy is popular among athletes and often in the media for that reason. As a result, people often ask if they need to work out before coming in. The answer is that while you can, you do not need to. We love to go through a strenuous workout and immediately feel better from a cryotherapy session (many of our clients do the same). Some prefer to visit us prior to a strenuous workout because they can train more intensely and don’t get sore afterward. Ultimately, it’s a preference and most people simply come in when it’s convenient for them.
How often should I come?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to that question. Ultimately you will decide how much cryotherapy you want in accordance with your goals, lifestyle and conditions. For example, athletes often come frequently during their intense training and competition times and far less frequently during their less intense work periods. You will derive longer-lasting benefits if you are seen on a somewhat regular basis. Still, regardless
I am claustrophobic, can I do this?
We have many clients that are claustrophobic but still enjoy our treatments. You will comfortably stand in a non-enclosed space with your head exposed the entire time. You’re in the room with our technician the entire time, and should you wish to get out, you can apply light pressure to the door, and it will easily push open.
How does whole-body cryotherapy work?
During the session, the outside skin temperature lowers, stimulated receptors activate a central nervous system response (fight or flight), and vasoconstriction occurs. The blood rushes to the core to protect vital organs, reducing inflammation throughout the body. Once the session ends, the body starts the rewarming process, and vasodilation begins, supplying the body and extremities with newly oxygenated blood, and jumpstarting your body's healing process over the next several hours.
Should I bring warm clothes?
Whole body cryotherapy is more effective when your skin is exposed as it triggers the body to release endorphins, anti-inflammatory properties and more. Therefore, you do not need to worry about bringing warm clothes. You will need to bring and wear socks that are above your ankles to protect your feet, WE will provide you with a robe to wear as well as moisture-stripping wipes, in case you come in with body lotion on or are sweaty from a previous workout. It is best not to put on body lotions or creams just before a cyro treatment. Once inside the cryosauna, you will remove your robe and hand it over to the technician. After the treatment, your robe will be returned for you to put back on, and your body will instantly warm back up.
What can I expect after my treatment?
The short answer is that you will feel great, but this differs for everyone. For example, someone with acute joint pain is more likely to notice an immediate change, whereas someone else may notice benefits later. We’ve had many people finish their session and instantly report feeling amazing, while others have left feeling good but report back that they felt incredible later that day or in the days that followed.
How often should I do Whole Body Cryotherapy?
Whole Body Cryotherapy is safe to do daily. We have clients that have done it daily for several years, to clients that come weekly for recovery, and clients that come whenever they need a quick pick-me-up. Studies show that the benefits of cryotherapy will be experienced with one session but are amplified by the frequency of treatments.
After the session will I be wet or need to take a shower?
Due to the fact that we uses nitrogen gas and not water, you will get completely dry after the session. The session does not affect your hair or face, so you can get dressed and go about your day.
Can I catch a cold from doing Whole Body Cryotherapy?
A Cold is caused by contact with fluids that contain a cold virus, these are launched into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. There are no fluids or contact with fluids during the session. Whole Body Cryotherapy can actually stimulate the immune system and help decrease the severity and/or frequency of colds and similar viral or bacterial conditions.
Can anyone do Whole Body Cryotherapy?
We have clients as young as nine and as old as 99. Conditions that we require you to consult your doctor before doing cryotherapy include Raynaud's disease after a recent heart attack or stroke and blood clot issues. If you are pregnant, we cannot allow you to do Whole Body Cryotherapy. However, if you are breastfeeding, you are welcome to do cryo.
Do I need to make an appointment or can I just walk in?
Yes, you will need to call us to book an appointment time.
How much does it cost?
Our per visit cost is $60 and packages are available for as few as 3 visits and as many as 15. As the number of visits increases obviously the cost per visit decreases. We have different packages available.
