Chiropractic is an approach to health that focuses on restoring normal motion and function of the joints in the body and the muscles that move them. That includes all joints, not just the spine. That is what we treat – all joints.
Dr. Fletch incorporates a chiropractic system known as Applied Kinesiology (AK). AK is a unique advanced approach that uses diagnostic muscle testing to find the underlying cause of structural imbalances and instabilities that could be causing a patient’s pain. Weak muscles, whether from new or old injuries, atrophy, improper use, neurological problems, or even nutritional imbalances, cause compensations. Other muscles, both antagonistic and synergistic to the weak muscle(s), become tight and over-taxed. These changes lead to restricted movements and changes in the function of joints and surrounding tissues. This leads to pain due to abnormal stress on the joints. In turn, these patterns lead to re-injury and new injuries, and very often, degenerative changes (arthritis) over time.
Our approach is to find the imbalances a patient has, determine the cause of those imbalances, and restore normal muscle, joint, and nerve function using various techniques to fix the cause of the problem. In addition to manual therapy at the office, we use personalized exercises, dietary advice, and lifestyle modifications.
We believe it’s a better long-term solution to make patients active in their rehabilitation, understanding what to do and why things impact their health. The goal is to help patients regain stability, strength, balance, and flexibility and empower them to further their health and longevity.
Injuries occur in many ways; Motor Vehicle Accidents, Sports Injuries, or just living. To us, chiropractic involves much more than adjusting the spine and joints of the extremities. It involves evaluating and treating all the muscles involved as well. In addition to chiropractic care, we also utilize a number physical therapy modalities; IFC, Cold Laser, Neurotracker, Altitude Simulation and our 6,000 foot gym and training facility within the Athlete’s Zone.
Cold Laser Therapy (CLT)
CLT has been actively used and researched for nearly 60 years. To date, there are more than 4,000 published studies worldwide involving CLT, with approximately 400 double-blind randomized controlled studies. CLT has many clinical applications for both acute and chronic pain. It reduces inflammation, stimulates cellular regeneration, and accelerates tissue healing.
Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy can be incorporated using acupuncture or pads on the skin’s surface. It can be effective at reducing pain and sometimes activating weak muscles.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical treatment for spinal disorders including but not limited to herniated or bulging discs in the neck and lower back. Spinal decompression gently stretches the spine and relaxes the surrounding muscles, helping to reduce pressure on any pinched nerves.
Orthotics
An orthotic is a custom-made foot insole, designed to give support to the feet. Orthotics are used to correct imbalances in foot function, overall posture and walking patterns to relieve pain from muscles and tendons in the feet and all the way up through the ankles, knees, legs, hips and lower back.
A group class that uses the mobility exercises I teach in one-on-one settings. It will be an opportunity to have a class to supplement whatever work-out program you are currently using but should not replace other activities. If you are working out with me, or another trainer, this is meant to supplement that programming. If you CrossFit, yoga, or spin, this will only add to your weekly workouts.
Mobility work is meant to expand your usable range of motion which we lose both with age and our current lifestyle. I will put a focus on joint health & longevity, body control, and how all of this is related to injury prevention.
One thing I want to say for those who have not experienced it before- it is NOT a stretching class. Although the word “Stretch” is in the name- this is a very active class. It will be a workout. It can be challenging. Muscle cramps are common in mobility work but I will explain why they are happening and why they shouldn’t always be avoided.
If you are currently dealing with an injury and are experiencing pain, this class is not for you. Mobility work is not rehabilitation work. Taking a joint in pain through a mobility class can potentially exacerbate the issue.
